Children can also go blind from untreated eye diseases. The most important examples are cataracts, infections and injuries. If detected in time and treated surgically, blindness can almost always be prevented, which is of immense importance for the future life of the children. Therefore, KCMC in Tanzania has initiated the Project: Childhood Blindness Prevention Program. With existing human and clinical infrastructure, external funding was lacking to implement the program. The DSB Foundation provided the majority of funding from 2014-2018 and helped to sustain the project.
